There are many stories that seem to have characters that fall into these worlds, are forever transformed by them, then put back into reality, and asked to live a normal life again. I’ve been fascinated by what comes after. How do others see the changes in these characters? How do these characters cope? My story, “Alice & Wendy,” came out of this fascination, of these two women who don’t end up coping well. They find each other and are attracted to their shared history, this shared transformation, this shared resonance with each other.
When I saw the call for the Queens in Wonderland anthology (Amazon*) put out by No Bad Books Press and edited by Theresa Halvorsen and Chris Bannon, an anthology that wanted queer stories related to Alice and Wonderland, I thought how wonderfully “Alice & Wendy” would fit. I’m so glad they agreed. Please check out the anthology, filled with so many wonderful and wonderfully queer stories that explore so many of the infinite possibilities of Wonderland.
Also, please check out my interview (along with all the other fantastic author interviews) on the Semi-Sages of the Pages channel discussing in more detail all my feelings for these characters, my story, and this anthology. I was a bit nervous doing it, but Theresa put me right at ease. Let me know what you think!
