There are some stories that arrive almost fully formed. My dear friend Larry is a car enthusiast, and we once met up with him at a car auction in Palm Springs. He showed us a photo of the classic Mercury Montclair convertible he was working on at the time. I thought it was a beautiful car, and the image stayed in my mind for a long time. Then, one day, I had a thought that it looked like a spaceship with its sleek lines and chrome. From there, my story “Spaceship” revealed itself. It went through some iterations and rewriting over the years, but the main core of that story (a man who dreams of flying into space) never changed. I’m so glad that it finally found a home at The Lit Nerds, who focus on publishing positive fiction. I hope my story brings a little joy into your life as well, and I hope it reminds you to always dream big. You just may achieve it (even if not quite in the ways you thought you would).
